Chardham Route

The Char Dham route is a revered pilgrimage circuit in the Indian Himalayas, encompassing four sacred destinations: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each site holds profound religious significance and is believed to offer spiritual blessings to pilgrims who embark on this divine journey.

Yamunotri: The journey typically begins at Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River. Situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Yamunotri is accessible through a trek of about 6 kilometers from the town of Hanuman Chatti. Pilgrims pay homage at the Yamunotri temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, and also visit the Surya Kund and Divya Shila.

Gangotri: From Yamunotri, the route leads to Gangotri, the origin of the sacred Ganges River. Located in the Uttarkashi district, Gangotri is reachable via a road journey from Uttarkashi town. Pilgrims visit the Gangotri temple, which honors Goddess Ganga, and often take a dip in the holy waters of the Bhagirathi River. Nearby attractions include Bhagirathi Shila and the picturesque Gangotri National Park.

Kedarnath: The next stop on the Char Dham route is Kedarnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Nestled in the Rudraprayag district, Kedarnath is reached via a trek or helicopter ride from places like Sonprayag or Phata. Pilgrims visit the Kedarnath temple located at an altitude of 3,583 meters, along with the nearby Bhairavnath temple and Gandhi Sarovar.

Badrinath: The final destination of the Char Dham Yatra is Badrinath, revered as the abode of Lord Vishnu. Situated in the Chamoli district, Badrinath is accessible by road from Joshimath. Pilgrims visit the Badrinath temple, take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund, and explore Mana Village, known as the last inhabited village before the Indo-China border. Other attractions include the Vasudhara Falls and Charan Paduka.
